APJ

Thank you very much for your interest in the American Poetry Journal. We have read your submission carefully and with interest but are sorry to report that we are not able to accept any of the oems you sent for publication. Feel free, however, to try us again in the future.

Sincerely,

J.P.Dancing Bear, Editor
The American Poetry Journal

This is a sad rejection. I was sure JPDB would find something of merit in my work.

The rejection envelope included a second slip advertising the APJ Poet Prize. I'm wondering what would be the point of my entering their contest if my poetry does not suit their tastes?

Just something to consider. They haven't rejected all work you did or all that you could do. A few words of one submission didn't fit their idea for this issue. And contests are often judged by someone other than the regular editor. The same poems or another set of yours may be accepted.
