The Murderers

My poem, The Murderers, placed 3rd in the IBPC (Internet Board Poetry Community) monthly competition. Many thanks to Millard of the South Carolina Writers Workshop for his unfailing support for my work.

Hello, Jude.
It was my pleasure to send Murderers to the IBPC and I was very happy for you to place high in this competition. It's a tough one.

Belated congrats to you, Jude. That's one helluva poem. Reminds me alot of Dorianne Laux's work. Do you read her? If not, I think you should. You'd find a kindred voice in hers.

Hi Millard - thanks again for your encouragements!

Laurel - I do know Dorianne Laux's work. Shipfitters Wife and A Girl in A Doorway are two of my favourite but I've enjoyed all of her work. I also own The Poet's Companion which is a workbook she published with co-author Kim Addonizio. Guess some of it has rubbed off. Now I want Mary Oliver, Jane Kenyon, and Susan Musgrave to start rubbing off as well! Thanks for dropping in ...

It's the visual. I remember now - I was always taken with the way Laux could present a poem without spaces - verse breaks or strophes. I am working with that form a lot these days ...
